LONDON UK, Wednesday 7 June - London luxury retailer Browns collaborates with South Central LA based brand Crenshaw Skate Club (CSC) on an exclusive 20 piece unisex capsule of skate and streetwear classics for FARFETCH BEAT 009 (FARFETCH’s retail concept series that introduces exclusive product experiences to a global audience).
Founded in 2017 by Tobey McIntosh as a way to represent his community and LA skate culture, CSC is more than a brand and brings together a collective of Tobey’s friends with the ambition to skate to empower while uplifting and amplifying young entrepreneurs from Crenshaw. Having built a loyal following through its community, today CSC counts Supreme as a stockist, Justin Bieber as a fan and has multiple collaborations under its belt including Pharrell’s BBC ICECREAM, Nike, Lacoste and the LA Clippers. This exclusive capsule however, is an evolution for the brand which until recently was confined to tees and hoodies and is designed to capture the broader skate aesthetic that is so prominent in luxury fashion today.
On this collection Tobey said, ‘This collaboration with Browns for FARFETCH Beat is very special and symbolic of CSC’s next step into the world of cut and sew, which has been a goal of mine ever since I was a kid. With this exclusive we’ve been able to take CSC’s message international which is to represent and empower inner-city skaters, and I hope that I can make inner-city skaters in other countries feel represented as well. The origin of CSC is hyperlocal, but the message can be applied to kids all over the world.’
Ida Petersson, Buying Director for Browns added, ‘From the first moment I connected with Tobey, he impressed me with his maturity, vision and love for his community, making it the perfect partnership to bring to Browns and FARFETCH customers. He has so much creative energy and the brand is at that tipping point where it has the real potential to make its mark on a global scale. It is exceptionally exciting to be part of this journey with Tobey and Crenshaw Skate Club, delivering a collection that captures the zeitgeist and is designed to be lived-in.’
With a collection inspired by Tobey’s neighbourhood, this exclusive brings the youthful spirit of CSC from LA to London. Alongside the brands tried and tested t-shirts and hoodies, in the cut and sew collection you will find a black denim co-ord, a black, green and red tie dye workwear jacket with matching straight leg trousers, and one of our favourite looks, a soft beige three-piece trouser, jacket and shirt combo printed with the Crenshaw Square sign. Throughout the collection and across the skateboards are CSC’s signature playful graphics including the crew skating down Crenshaw Boulevard and a soft teddy bear wearing a gold chain with the CSC logo, inspired by one that Tobey can always be seen wearing.
With the brand's ethos in mind, Tobey will be heading to London to celebrate Crenshaw Skate Club’s partnership with Browns for FARFETCH Beat 009 by hosting a community activation at a London skatepark, BaySixty6 with local skaters and his favourite artists scheduled for London Fashion Week, Friday 9 June.
Crenshaw Skate Club’s collection will be available exclusively at Browns Brook Street, online at brownsfashion.com and FARFETCH from Wednesday 7 June 2023.
